So recently I've watched many youtubers raving about this certain powder foundation and so I decided to try it out and review it to see if it is really that good. If you are also contemplating of getting the Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation, maybe you can read my review first before deciding. So let's get to the topic!
So what is this powder foundation? It is a mattifying powder foundation that claims to banish blemishes, blur imperfections for a complexion free from visible pores. It is also water resistant and the formula makes it very breathable. Better still, there is a total of 30 shades so there's bound to be a shade for everyone. Sounds great to me but is it worth the $72 I paid for it? Let's find out!
Comes with a big mirror and a sponge |
Black metal case |
The sponge that the foundation comes with has got two different sides, a black spongey side as well as a white cotton-ish side. The black side of the sponge offers high coverage whereas the white side is for a soft veil of powder. In other words, if you are using the powder foundation as your base makeup then use the black side of the sponge for application and if you are using the powder foundation to set your makeup or just for touch up, use the white side of the sponge. I actually quite like the idea of this duo side sponge and I think they are both equally good.
I got the powder foundation in shade Y305 and as you can tell, it's too dark for me. I bought it from Sephora website without actually trying out in the store which was a mistake. So I suggest if you want to buy this, do try it out in the store first before deciding on the shade.
Let's move on to the foundation itself, first impression of the powder is that it's really very velvety smooth. The formula is very light weight and it feels like second skin when I applied on my face. It has a medium coverage and is very buildable if you want an even higher coverage.
This is me after applying to the right side of my face. |
After applying the foundation to the right side of my face, my dark eye circle is mostly covered, as well as my acne scars and pores. But I did notice some creases under the eye so I guess you got to moisturise your undereye first before going into this powder foundation. Also, I think this foundation is rather drying so it's better if you go for a moisturising primer before applying the foundation. On the two occasions that I tried this foundation out, I noticed a little peeling of skin on the left side of my cheek which doesn't happen to me usually.
The foundation is very lasting but I did notice that my tzone was slightly shinier than when I first stepped out of the house. In my honest opinion, I think the Maybelline Fit Me Powder Foundation can perform so much better than this Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation and it is so much cheaper too.
So if you are thinking of trying out a powder foundation for the first time, perhaps you can first try out the Maybelline one first that is only retailing at $19.90 before going for this Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation which is retailing at $72.
And that's all I have for this post, I hope you have a good time reading it. Please follow me if you haven't already and I'll see you in my next post, xoxo.
