Colourpop recently had a 20% storewide sale and I took the opportunity to grab some stuff which included their Velvet Blur Lux Lipsticks. So in today's post, I'll be doing lip swatches on these newly purchased Colourpop Lux Lipsticks as well as sharing my thoughts on them. If you are keen to find out more, keep on reading!
The Colourpop Velvet Blur Lux Lipstick claims to create a soft focus, blurring effect with the same high impact colour. The silky, velvet soft texture smoothes over fine lines and imperfections, while never drying out the lips. It has a formula that works with your look, build up the colour to add drama, or blur out the edges for a soft romantic look. It contains extracts of pomegranate, goji fruit and grape seeds to protect and nourish our lips. I was totally intrigued by these claims I saw online because they totally sound like something right up my alley. I have very dry and eczema prone lips so I am usually very picky when it comes to lipsticks and I definitely go for those more nourishing less matte kinda lipsticks. Having read these claims, I immediately carted out some of them.

And much to my surprise, the little stars are not only printed on the packaging, it is also all over the lipstick itself too! A for effort 👍
Bought myself 7 shades in all and to my disappointment, I think some of the shades look rather similar.
1) 21 Questions (burnt orange red)
2) Hey Mr DJ (soft petal pink)
3) Mesmerize (warm rose)
4) Y2K (mauve brown)
5) CA Love (brown)
6) Lucky Strike (mauvey pink)
7) Money Side Up (coral peach)
My favourite shades have got to be Y2K as well as Mesmerize but unfortunately my Y2K broke into halves when I was doing the lip swatch 😭😭😭 So peeps do be careful when you are using these Lux Lipsticks because they are very fragile like that. I also realised that Money Side Up seemed to have a different formula and it is smoother and has a more velvety finish in my opinion. It also stained my lips the most.
As for the lipstick itself, I must admit I was kinda disappointed with it. The application was not as smooth as I expected because the lipstick turned out to be quite drying in my opinion. It does have a matte finish and I feel that it is very drying on the lips. The pigmentation of the lipstick is good and I was able to get an even application with just a layer. In my opinion, it didn't seem like what it claims to be. I definitely didn't feel that my lips are moisturised or nourished. In fact, I felt that my lips were very dehydrated when I was wearing the lipstick. For people with dry lips, do apply moisuturing lip balm before the lipstick. Also I noticed that the lip stick actually accentuates my lip lines instead of blurring them. So in conclusion, I didn't quite like the formula of this velvet blur lipstick because I find it too drying to my liking.
All in all, I'm actually not very impressed with these Colourpop Velvet Blur Lux Lipsticks to be honest. I think the shades are rather similar and the formula is a little too drying for me. They are really inexpensive so if there's something that you have been eyeing from Colourpop, and there's a shade that caught your eye from this collection, I think they are still worth purchasing (for the packaging and the shade).
So that's all I have for this post. I hope you have enjoyed reading it. Please follow me if you haven't already and I'll see you in my next post, xoxo.
