Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Mattifying Primer & Hydrating Longwear Foundation First Impression + Wear Test

In today's post, I'll be doing a first impression and wear test on the new Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Hydrating Longwear Foundation that she recently released. I have oily skin so I would usually prefer a matte foundation but today I'm gonna try out this hydrating foundation and see if it suits oily skin as well. On top of that, I'll be using it with the mattifying primer on one side of the face and see if it's worth buying. If you are curious to see the results, keep on reading!

So to prep the skin for foundation, I'm using the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Mattifying Primer on the left side of my face. It claims to be the next level mattifying primer for combination to oily skin that works instantly to deliver maximum all day shine control while improving and extending foundation wear.

The primer has a lightweight, almost gel-like texture and it absorbs easily into the skin. It has the Fenty smell, if you know what I mean and I like the smell. It is not tinted so it melts into nothing but my own skin colour and it feels so smooth on the skin. And a little goes a very long way for this primer, all you need is a small pump for the entire face. This is little bottle is retailing at $48 in Sephora and I'll compare it with my recent Catrice purchase Keep Me Matt primer and see if it does the same job.

So on the right side of my face, I am gonna use the Catrice Keep Me Matt primer and see how the two primers fare after a whole day. Do keep reading to see the wear test results at the end of the blog. Next let's move on to the star of the post, the new Hydrating Longwear Foundation.

The new Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Hydrating Longwear Foundation claims to be the first of its kind hydrating longwear foundation that delivers it all, with comfortable medium to full coverage. It has a serious staying power and a natural finish that comes in 50 different shades. It is created with Grape Seed Oil and Sodium Hyaluronate to give skin the nourishing hydration it needs to stay comfortable all day.

I got mine in shade 200 and I think it's a perfect match for my skin tone. The packaging is really cute and it comes in a tube with a pump which is very convenient. It has a watery consistency and blends so well. I like that it is not drying and yet it is not overly dewy like I thought it would be.

With just a tiny pump, I was able to conceal at least 80% of my dark circles so I would definitely agree that this foundation has a medium to full coverage that is buildable.
It is not tacky at all so I didn't even have to set it down with a powder. I like that it feels so smooth on the skin and it has the natural finish that I am into. So I got to say, I have got a pretty good first impression of this foundation and I can't wait to see how my makeup will look after a full day.

The side with Catrice Keep Me Matt Primer

After a good twelve hours, my makeup looked exactly the same like how it was twelve hours ago except for the nose which looked a little shiny and the makeup seemed to have worn off a little around the nose but I had a little runny nose and was rubbing my nose so I guessed that was why the makeup didn't quite last there. Overall, the makeup stayed on very well with no extra shine and my face felt really hydrated the whole day and I definitely did not notice any difference between the Pro Filt'r Mattifying Primer and the Catrice Keep Me Matt Primer. I think both of them serve the same purpose and do their job pretty well. And if I have to choose, I think I can survive with just the Catrice one because it is much more affordable.

Overall I really like the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Hydrating Longwear Foundation, which is to my surprise since I have oily skin but it does not make my face look greasy or over hydrated at all even after 12 hours. I like the natural finish and the coverage that it offers. This is definitely a good foundation for all skin types and I highly recommend it. As for the primer, you can give it a miss because there're better ones out there with cheaper price tags.

What's In My Hospital Bag

In today's post, I'm gonna share what I packed into my hospital bag or rather luggage for my delivery on 1st Oct 19. My husband and I had decided to opt for Caesarean Section with General Anesthesia after a discussion with my gynaecologist Dr Michelle Lee from Mount Alvernia because Baby R is kinda big and due to my slip disc, I'm not able to take epidural. Hence Dr Michelle suggested csect with GA for me because she thought that even if I can endure the pain without epidural, the pushing part may be hard for me due to my back issue and it might also affect my future walking ability. Upon hearing these, we decided to give up on natural birth and heed the doctor's advice. And the date is set, and we'll be welcoming Baby R on 1st Oct (fingers crossed that she can bake till then). It's only been 1.5 weeks since we decided on the csect and everything was a rush for us, including packing of my hospital bag. Like every other kiasu mummy out there, I didn't want to be under prepared so I kinda packed quite a little too much after doing some research and listening to all the hearsays. So without further ado, let's get into the list of things I'm bringing to the hospital!

1) Hospital Documents

This is definitely the most important thing that you need to bring to the hospital and it is your admission letter from your doctor. In the letter, your gynae will include all the instructions required for the hospital to admit you in on your day of labour. Together with the letter, you can attach your prenatal check up receipts for the medisave claim which the hospital will assist you with. For me, I only attached the prenatal package that I signed up for with my gynae because all we can claim is $900 so usually the maternity check up package that you signed up for is more than enough for the claim. Ps do make sure you keep all your receipts for the claims. On top of that, I also bring my test reports to the hospital just in case there are any complications and the hospital needs them. And if you are gonna register for your child's birth certificate at the hospital, do bring along your marriage certificate too.

Next, let's see what I packed for myself.

2) Disposable Underwear

There are many brands out there like Tena and Kotex that are doing disposable underwear but the one that I will bringing is the Watsons house brand Extra Comfort disposable underwear for maternity. I like that it is made of cotton which is more comfortable and it is also high waisted which is perfect since I will need something to cover over my wound on the bikini line.

3) Sanitary/Maternity Pads

This Pureen Madame Maternity Pads should be something familiar to all mommies because they are specially designed for post natal use to abosrb the heavy flow. I recommend to bring your own and make sure you tell the nurses in the hospital that you've got your own because if you don't, the hospital will provide you with their own maternity pads and then charge then to your final bill. For me, since I already purchased it from the baby fair and I most likely will not be needing it once I am doing breast feeding (hopefully I can), I rather pack it into my hospital bag and save a little cost.

4) Nipple Cream

And mommies, if you are gonna try exclusive breast feeding, then make sure you bring a tube of nipple cream. The one I have is from the brand Pigeon which is safe for baby. In fact, I have already started applying it religiously to condition the nipples and to ease dryness.

5) Nipple Shield

Another Pigeon product, Nipple Shield is also very important to help relieve pain when baby latch. Again, this is for mommies who intend to do exclusive breastfeed and since I know I'm gonna try, I have to pack it into my bag.

6) Nursing Bra (non wired)

I have read that wearing underwired bras can cause a decrease in your milk supply because milk ducts are not just in the visible breast tissue but they extend all the way back to your rib cage and up into your armpit. Our milk needs to move freely through these ducts so to avoid a decrease in supply, I think it's best to stick to non wired nursing bras first. I bought 2 from Shopee ($6.90 each) and they are surprisingly very comfortable and comparable to the ones I bought from Mothercare that cost me 5 times more.


8) Nursing Pad

For nursing pads, I'm bringing these Philips Avent disposable ones so that I can just throw them away when they are dirty.

9) breast pump (optional)

If you are gonna bring your breast pump, do make sure that you sterilise it first because if you don't, chances are the nurses will still get you to use the hospital pump but of course with a rental fee. I am bringing my Spectra S1+Pump mainly for the massage (let down) mode so as to stimulate milk production which I think is very important because I know it takes sometime for breast milk to kick in and I really wanna try to get it start as soon as possible.

10) Comfortable pyjamas (buttoned down)

For pyjamas, do remember to bring these buttoned down kind so that it's easier for you to breast feed.

11) skin care products / toiletries / cosmetics

For my skin care products, I packed all the travel size ones in which include facial mist, toner, serum, eye cream and moisturiser. Not forgetting lip balm and hand cream to moisturise my lips and skin because staying in aircon room 24/7 is gonna dehydrate our skin. I am also bringing a mini size deodarant, perfume and hair laundry tissue from Apieu, so that in the event that I couldn't shower or wash my hair, at least I won't stink. Oh and I'm also bringing feminine wipes, for hygiene purpose.

12) Socks

To keep my feet warm at night and to prevent me from getting rheumatism when I am older.

13) Phone Charger

So that I can Netflix whole day without worrying battery flat. 😂

14) Going home clothes

I'm bringing my nursing dress because I doubt I can miraculously lose all the weight I had gained during this pregnancy period in 4 days so my pre pregnancy clothes are definitely out. Furthermore, to be able to feed my baby while on the move, I think nursing dress is the best option.

That's all the stuff I packed for myself. Then for the baby, these are the things I packed.

15) Nice going home clothes

To be honest, I've no idea how big or small the baby will be so I ended up packing 3 rompers in 3 different sizes. Yupp kiasu mommy here. 🤷‍♀️

17) Mittens, booties and hat

Bringing these mainly because I've already purchased them and I really can't wait to see how Baby R looks like in them. Plus, I also need them when I am discharged from the hospital.

Lastly, for the daddy who seems to be packing for a staycay, just bring enough clothes and a sweater. And if you want, you can bring pillows, bolster and cup noodles (like what my husband is gonna do 🤦‍♀️) and you are ready to go.

Tatcha The Skin Canvas Primer Review

In today's post, I'll be sharing my thoughts on the Tatcha The Skin Canvas Primer, whether it's worth splurging money on or not. I've seen many youtubers raving about this primer and I was really intrigued by the flawless finish the product claims to give. So if you are keen to find out more, keep on reading!

 So what is this Silk Canvas Primer? It is actually a priming balm with pressed silk that smoothes and preserves the look of makeup. It claims to not only protect the skin but also seals the look of makeup for the entire day. It nourishes skin as it is applied and aims to reduce shine for a matte finish. And as a result makeup can be applied to oil free skin, giving it a greater chance to last throught the day and night. It is also said to be able to blur the looks of pores, fine lines and uneven skin tone, colour correcting with an universal shade for a healthy, soft focus glow. It is also anti-sagging because of its Japanese Superfood ingredients which helps to restore youthful radiance. Last but not least, it is said to be suitable for all skin types. Doesn't these claims sound soooo amazing and makes you wanna try it out even though it is retailing at $72 (that's expensive for a primer).

Okay back to the product itself, I like the premium looking packaging that the primer comes in. In fact, I think Tatcha aced all their products packaging as they all look so classy in the standard one colour look. When I saw the product itself, it reminded me a lot of my lip balms and the texture of it is very balmy and buttery, which I like.

Too much product 

This is all you need for the entire face

When I first tried it, I took too much product and my face almost felt moderate oily so I quickly wiped it off my face and went with a smaller amount. In fact, all you need is a rice size amount for the entire face. So even though this primer is really pricey, but a little goes a very long way for it and I believe one tub can last a few months or even half a year, if you are very careful with the amount used.

Half face test

Decided to try the Silk Canvas on my left face and the Maybelline Pore Eraser on my right side to see the difference. Honestly, in terms of blurring pores, I think they are both as good. As for the blurring of fine lines, since I do not have fine lines on my face, I cannot vouch that the Silk Canvas is doing its job here but what I did notice was that the redness on my left face was immediately corrected. I can hardly see any uneven tone on my left face after applying the small amount of Silk Canvas whereas I can still see redness on my right face. Also, my left face was obviously much brighter and more glowy looking as compared to the right side which looked more dull.

Full Face test

The very next day, I tried the Silk Canvas Primer on my entire face and the result was even better. My face felt so smooth and evenly toned and in fact, I could hardly see the redness of my acne scar on my right side. And because of its silkiness on the skin, applying makeup on the face became so much easier and fuss free.

Base makeup completed 

I love that this Silk Canvas gives a matte finish but it is also not drying so your skin doesn't feel dry or dehydrated throughout the day which is good because that means both oily skin and dry skin will be suitable for this primer. I love how my face feels and looks so flawless for the entire day with this Silk Canvas Primer and I think even an ant will not be able to crawl onto my face because it is that smooth.

For the few times that I used this Silk Canvas Primer, my makeup lasted the entire day (and by that I meant more than 10 hours). In fact, the face looked exactly how it looked like when I first applied on the makeup. It remained shine free even though I have oily skin especially on the t zone area but my face gave off a very natural glow that looked so healthy and definitely not greasy.

So if I have to give an honest opinion for this Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer, I would say that I cannot find any reason to dislike this primer (except for the price) but like I said earlier, you only need a very tiny amount each time so it really can last you quite a long while. It really makes my skin looks so flawless like a doll and shine free throughout the day so I definitely will highly recommend this to all of you reading this post (I know it's pricey but I'm sorry it's really good).

Full Face Catrice Makeup & What's Worth Buying

In today's post, I'll be doing a full face makeup with Catrice Cosmetics and actually I can't believe I am only doing this post now because Catrice is one of my all time favourite drugstore brand and I've been using her products for the longest time ever. In fact, some of the products that I'm gonna share later are my absolute holy grails and I cannot live without them. So if you are interested to see more, keep on reading!

I'm doing things slightly different today by starting with my eye makeup first instead because I am gonna try out a new eyeshadow palette so to avoid fall outs all over my face, I'll go with the eyeshadow first.

Before we apply the eyeshadow, it's important to prime your lids and I've got the Catrice Prime and Fine Eyeshadow Base.

This eyeshadow base comes with a small doe foot applicator and it is slightly tinted which I like.

A little goes a long way for this eyeshadow base and just a tiny amount will help to even out the redness of my lids. It is slightly tacky which is good because it helps eyeshadow to "stick" on my lids, enabling them to last longer so I definitely will highly recommend this eyeshadow base to everyone who is reading this.

Moving on to the eyeshadow, honestly I am not a fan of Catrice eyeshadows thus far because most of the palettes that I own don't really perform well hence I didn't really have any high hope on the Blazing Bronze Collection eyeshadow palette which I recently purchased.

One major thing that I noticed after opening the packaging was that the entire palette only has got shimmer shades in it 🤦‍♀️which meant I would probably have a hard time doing a decent eye makeup with it. The shades in this palette are mostly warm tone neutrals with a little pink and purple which are usually my cup of tea.

The eyeshadows are quite pigmented and the colour payoff are not too bad. I didn't notice any fall outs while I was swatching them on my hand.

I also bought a few single shadows to try out the formula and luckily they didn't disappoint at all.

I really like the names of the eyeshadows, so punny and apt and the shade The Big Blue Theory is so stunning that I'm totally obsessed with it.

To start off the eye look, I went for shade 1 and applied to the crease.

To darken the shade, I added shade 2 to the crease.

Next up, for the all over the lid colour, I'm using the Catrice Eyeshadow Stix in Powerful Peach.

The colour payoff of the eyeshadows are not very impressive and I had to add on a few more layers to get the results I wanted.
Then I applied the single shadow in the shade The Big Blue Theory all over my lid and added the mixture of shade 3 and 4 from the eyeshadow palette to the crease to add a little dimension to it.

To finish off the upper eye lid, I used the Catrice It's Easy Black Liner to draw a thin eye liner close to the lash line. This eyeliner is very waterproof as well as smudge proof which is very good for people with oily lids. But it is also very hard to remove and I had an extremely hard time removing it at night, especially with my eyelash extension. It is nonetheles a very decent eye liner and I definitely will reach out for it again once my eyelashes extension is removed. As for the Blazing Bronze Collection Eye Shadow palette, I wasn't very impressed by it mainly because it only consists of shimmer shades so it's relatively hard to come out with a decent eye look. The colour payoff on the lids are not as great too so I would totally give this palette a miss. On the other hand, the single shadow in the shade The Big Blue Theory really surprised me with its good pigmentation and the colour is totally right up my alley. I think overall the single shadows perform much better than the palette in terms of colour pigmentation, longevity as well as the amount of fall-outs.

Completed upper eyelid look

For the complexion, I went in with the Catrice Cool & Matte primer stick first and applied it all over my face. Really love this primer stick because it is so cooling on my face and with Singapore's hot and humid weather, this is definitely a plus point. It is also easily absorbed and not tacky at all. The packaging is so tiny and easy to bring around which is to me another plus point. I also think that it is a primer that suits all skin types.

And because I have oily skin, I decided to go for a second primer just to focus on my t zone area, so that I can look shine free throughout the day.

The second primer of my choice is the Prime & Fine Keep Me Matte makeup base. It has a watery, lotion-like consistency instead of a siliconey texture that I was expecting since it's a pore refining primer which I didn't mind because it is definitely more light weight than I thought. This makeup base is also easily absorbed but I didn't notice the pore refining effect that it claims to have which is a bummer. I did notice that my skin stayed fresh and shine free through the day though, which is the most important aspect for me when it comes to choosing primer. So if you ask me, I would say this second primer suits normal to oily skin better as it does seem more drying than the first one.

For foundation, I'm using my favourite Catrice product and that is the All Matte Plus shine control makeup. I am in the shade 020 Nude Beige and this suits me perfectly. This foundation has a creamy consistency and it is very easy to blend.

The coverage of this foundation is medium to high and it is very buildable. I was able to cover 90% of my dark circles and blemishes with just half a pump. The longevity of this foundation is really good as well and I was able to stay shine free till the end of the day. It is not drying at all and the finish is more of a natural finish which I think will suit all skin types. In fact, I had recommended this foundation to my friends who have dry skin and they all love it too.

For concealers, I have 3 in my collection and the first one is the One Drop Coverage Weightless Concealer. I got mine in shade 003 Porcelain and I think it is slightly lighter than my original shade but I think it's okay because I can use it to brighten my under eye. This concealer has got high coverage and I like that it blends so easily and it doesn't set into my fine lines.

The second concealer is the Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer that claims to be able to last for 12 hours and is water proof. I got mine in the shade 005 Light Natural and I think it is the perfect match for my skin tone. This concealer has a very strong smell to it (in a pleasant way) but if you are very sensitive to smell then perhaps you wanna try avoiding this concealer. It has equally high coverage as compared to the first one and it blends very well too without any creasing. If I have to choose one between the two, I think i will go for the first one just because I think its coverage is maybe 5% higher than the latter one. Plus it doesn't come with a strong smell.

The last concealer is the HD Liquid Coverage Precision Concealer and the name suggests that this is the type of concealer you will reach out for if you want to cover specific spots. The ultra precise applicator can cover any ultra small imperfection and I like to use it to define my eye brows as well. I got mine in the shade 010 light beige and it is again a perfect match for my skin tone.

This precision concealer has got slightly lower coverage as compared to the other two but the coverage is buildable. All in all, I feel that these 3 concealers are really good and affordable and I will definitely recommend it to everyone.

For setting powder, my all time favourite has got to be the All Matt Plus Control Powder and this is probably my 100th one as I go through it so quickly. It literally keeps my face looking matte and shine free the whole day, even with the most dewy foundation. So when I saw the other Healthy Look Mattifying Powder, I was so keen to try it out and see if it's as good as the All Matt Plus.

In my opinion, they are definitely the same powder, equally finely milled, same mattifying effect but the healthy look one seems to darken my skin tone a little whereas the All Matt Plus one is more translucent. So for this, I would prefer All Matt Plus to the Healthy Look Mattifying Powder.

For contouring and bronzing, I am using the Sun Glow Matt Bronzing Powder as well as the Limited Edition Sculpting PowderPalette (not sure if it's still available). The contour from the palette is slightly lighter than the Sun Glow Bronzer so I would usually do my contouring with that first and then followed by the Sun Glow Bronzing powder to bronze up the face.

Personally, I don't really like the bronzing powder because I find it slightly hard to blend on the face but the colour is what I usually go for when choosing bronzer so I'm kinda sitting on the fence for this bronzing powder. It's really inexpensive so if you are new to contouring, perhaps you can try this out.

For blusher, I am trying the Catrice Blush Box in Soft Rose and it is a really soft and subtle rosey pink shade. The colour pigmentation is good and it is very buildable as well. The powder is very finely milled and it applies so smoothly on the skin. I am definitely very impressed with this Blush and I think it is worth getting all the shades available.

For highlight, I'm using the Artic Glow Highlighting Powder and peeps, you NEED to have this highlight in your life. The pigmentation is really good and the shimmer is out of the world. It is so beautiful on the face and you can literally see the glow from any angle.

If you are looking for a good drugstore highlight, look no further because this is one good one.

To finish my eye look, l am using the Catrice Made To Stay Highlighter Pen on my lower lash line. Really love this highlight pen because it is very shimmery and it stays on all day. I find it very convenient as well since it's in a form of a pen, I can bring it around if I need to boost my glow.

For the lips, I am going for the Velvet Matt Lip Pencil first to line my lips. Really love this lip pencil because it is very creamy and not drying and it stays on forever and ever.

For the main lip colour, I used the Melting Lip Colour in Creme Brulee and boy I love this lipstick so much. First the packaging is so classy in gold which I really like. The lipstick smells like chocolate which is so delicious and make me crave for chocolate every single time I apply the lipstick. And the lipstick is so creamy and not drying which is very suitable for my dry lips. If you have dry lips, highly recommend this Melting Lip Colour to you because it is very comfortable on the lips with a satin finish.

And my makeup is completed!

If you are new to Catrice, they are available in most of the Guardian outlets and they are really very affordable as compared to Maybelline and L'Oréal. What I do recommend to try out first is their All Matt Plus foundation because I think it's suitable for all skin types and it really lasts a decent amount of time. The concealers are really good as well, with very high coverage and they are very blendable. The Blush Box blusher is very finely milled and the colour payoff is really good so definitely highly recommending that too. Also if you are into very shimmery and glowy highlight, then the Artic Glow Highlight is one to check out too. Last but not least, the Melting Lip Colour lipstick is really creamy and comfortable on the lips and I love the satin finish that it gives.
